“Blessed are the poor in spirit …”
        ancient shade
        in the redwood grove
        the feel of soft bark

“Blessed are those who mourn …”
        the oak
        unseen
        dripping with fog

“Blessed are the meek …”
        the perfect tree
waiting on the lot for us
        Christmas eve

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness …”
        orange  blossom scent
        pushing    pushing
        a child on a swing

 “Blessed are the merciful …”
        full moon
        silhouette of almond branches
        on fallen petals

Blessed are the pure in heart …”
        election day
        the last leaf falls past
        ripe persimmons

“Blessed are the peacemakers …”
        mountain breeze
        leaf by leaf
        into the aspens

“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness sake …”
        the pines
        hugging the sand dunes
        hugging the pines

dry creek the questions keep coming
yes, yes, yes, yes, I'm awake too mr. woodpecker
pelicans one by one up and over a wave
sandpiper one footprint ahead of the wave
all day this stream of ants in the creek bed
new year
I slide my thumb
between orange and peel
